Our family originated in the

hamlet of la Prulhière,

community of Auzelles,

in the Puy-de-Dôme Department of Auvergne, France.

Our name has two possible origins….

One story is that a Roman General, Prulliacus (also known as Prulierus)

occupied the area of Auvergne at the time Ceasar conquered Gaule (France).

The other story is that the name comes from a tree common to the area of

la Prulhière.

This tree is called Prunelier.

In old southern French it was

Prunello or Prulhero.

It’s plum-like fruit is used to make gin.

Almost all of us in the USA are descended from

François & Emily Prulhière.

They arrived with their young sons, Emile & Leon,

at the Castle Garden immigration center in New York City on Apr. 1, 1874

from Liverpool, England.

How they traveled from  France to Liverpool is still unknown.

We lost touch with the family in France in the late 1800’s

and have been searching for them ever since.

This website has helped some of us re-unite.

We’re all enjoying the family reunion!
